Characters[]
Kondou Seiichirou[]
Typing on a computer Seiichirou thinks no matter how much he gets through there is no end in sight and has been battling a mountain of receipts from dawn to dusk. Having turned 29 ages ago and focused solely on work Seiichirou considers how he has not been cooking for himself these days. Finding himself in a new world, Seiichirou listened to the details of his new location and felt it had to be a dream. Asked if he had any desires Seiichirou replied to give him a job. Stating that he is good at calculations and accounting, Seiichirou contemplates how normally this is where he would share his qualifications, but they would not understand them here. After being shown to his room Seiichirou thinks he accidentally asked them to give him a job in such a forceful way, what was he thinking. Having arrived thirty minutes early to be shown around the accounting workplace, Seiichirou remembers Indrak from yesterday. While Norbert and Sommelier are fine with approving the Third Knight's Order's requests, Seiichirou reasons they are too high. He thinks at length how rather than an accounting department, or even an embezzlement unit, they in fact function as a conveyer belt to fund the lavish expenses of nobles, preventing them from being opposed.

Indrak Aresh[]
Knight Captain Indrak of the Third Knight Order comes across Seiichirou and proceeds to ask questions including why he is here, who he is waiting for, and for what reason. From a marquis family, Indrak is said to have a good family background too. Described as a rare genius, Indrak took charge as the Knight Commander at an unusually young age. Addressing Seiichirou he warns that the Prime Minister has his eyes on him. In conversation with Shiraishi he questions her on what a corporate slave is, and then what an office is. Finding and asking what Seiichirou is doing, Indrak then checks if he can answer him. Noticing that his face is pale and eyes out of focus, Indrak speculates that Seiichirou overdosed on a supplement. Judging that Seiichirou will not make it to hospital in time, Indrak employs magic to help his breathing. With Seiichirou having stopped trembling, Indrak feels he should be fine now. When Seiichirou reacts to the magic since he is from another world, Indrak thinks it is one problem after another and a bad idea to get involved with him yet continues to assist. After Seiichirou awakens at his, Indrak asks for his consent to treat the magic intoxication further by acclimatizing his body with magic.
Shiraishi Yua[]
Distressed as she was pulled into the ground, Shiraishi appeared fine to find people in another world and declared a saint. Having called for Seiichirou, who was pulled into the new world with her, a few days later she tells Julius to stop shouting at him, that she was the one who selfishly requested to speak with him. Embracing her saint role, Shiraishi feels she can save the people of this realm. Notified she has been kidnapped and guided to consider her own wellbeing, Shiraishi is upset and defensively accuses Seiichirou of saying she should refuse to help. With that not the case Shiraishi states if the miasma escapes many people will die and she questions why Seiichirou would say such a cruel thing before expressing the resolution to remain the saint. Along with Indrak, Rowder and Calvader too, Shiraishi reveals she is going to learn history from her private tutor this afternoon. She is honest with Seiichirou that he resembles a corporate slave. Shiraishi is forthcoming and readily accepts what is said to her.
Kamil Calvader[]
Lord Kamil, the Prime Minister of the Romane Kingdom is aware of Seiichirou in the world and gave a directive to ensure he was provided with all the necessities needed for an adequate life in the Romane Kingdom. Listening to Shiraishi's conversation with Indrak and Rowder he finds the "corporate slave" description of Seiichirou to be very interesting. Overhearing an unfriendly on one side dialogue that Seiichirou is a lowly officer compared to the Third Knights so is in no position, Calvader interjects he shall grant Seiichirou a position. Addressing the Third Knights member who was belittling Seiichirou, Calvader elucidates how he will not listen to Seiichirou because he does not have a position and belongs to the lower class. Accordingly, he will give him the position so Seiichirou will have the authority to enforce his decisions. Hereby bestowing upon Seiichirou the role of Assistant Director of the Accounting Department, Calvader requests that he please continues working hard for the sake of this country.
Helmuth Sommelier[]
The director of the accounting section for the Royal Palace. He is helpful to Seeichirou yet is upset at his request to see the current budget and asks if he knew that a portion of the budget applications never came to him. Sommelier is unsettled at feeling subject to the effects of implied accusations, or with the status quo unsettled. He is of the view that Seiichirou's sending revisions back for unreasonable requests constitutes him inciting conflicts with the other departments. Sommeliar did not see problematic requests from other departments as an issue, rather Seiichirou challenging the validity of inappropriate requests was the problem in his mind. While Sommelier feels relieved that Seiichirou volunteered to tackle those criticisms himself he does not have the energy to deal with his craving for work right now. In being content in an unsustainable system, Sommelier does not quite appreciate the issue of the miasma yet is not against Seiichirou from taking actions for it.
Norbert Baranek[]
Knocking and asking if Seiichirou is awake Norbert merrily introduces himself and states Mr. Helmuth asked him to bring books and clothes. Norbert is also a member of the accounting department and happily socializes with Seiichirou outside of work as well. Raising the topic of playboys existing in the other world too, Norbert showed Seiichirou around the lodging house. Coming across Indrak, it is the first time he has seen him up close and Norbert asks Seiichirou what they were talking about. Aware of the various orders, he details how the First Knight Order is pretty average, but the Third Knight Order requires one to be great with a sword on top of using magic. Norbert later provides a colorless liquid when Seiichirou has trouble sleeping. Happy that his accounting project is done with Seiichirou's guidance, Norbert mentions how Mr. Sei is now his superior and how he became one in the blink of an eye.
Julius[]
Lord Julius, the first prince of the kingdom, barks that Seiichirou is late when he arrives to see the saint who is sat next to him. Again raising his voice to demand to know what is with Seiichirou's attitude, Julius states Shiraishi was so worried even for the likes of him and does he not have more to say. Summoned by the king, Julius protests that he is busy now before departing for the urgent matter mentioned. Saying he will leave it to Indrak, and for him to not let them leave his sight, Julius also mentions to Shiraishi he will be going for a bit. Using "The Saint's Budget" Julius had claimed everything that he spent on Shiraishi as National Expenditure. Sitting in on a meeting beside the Prime Minister to learn there has been a confirmed case of the miasma, Julius announces Shiraishi is still training to perform purification.
Orzif Rowder[]
The vice-captain who accompanies Indrak into town. Seeing Norbert who is with Seiichirou he exclaims if it is not the "laundering department". Turning to Indrak and raising how he met the saint, Rowder questions whether she was as tired looking as Seiichirou. Getting revisions back on his budget applications Rowder asks Indrak to listen a little to the mundane duties as well. A member of the Knight Order, he is used to having his applications approved by accounting. In seeing Shiraishi for the first time, Rowder finds her cute. Being outgoing may result in Rowder making comments that could be regarded as insensitive, although speaking his mind is not done to be offensive.
Store Keeper[]
Welcoming Seiichirou again he identifies him as the one serving the knights that day, and with it now apparent, adds he actually has a position. Congratulating him, the storekeeper hears Seiichirou needs twenty bottles of the supplement that helps with sleep. While he is polite, in conversation with Indrak he states without malice how the Knight's gofer already brought a lot of the supplements for them.
Cielo Querbes[]
As the health director Querbes is in the Health Department when he sees Indrak bring Seiichirou to him. Asking who he is, Querbes has heard of the Saint's extra upon hearing his name. Wanting to have met him, Querbes then asks why Seiichirou is with Indrak and whether they have become friends. On Seiichirou's health ailment Querbes finds it strange since he examined the saint as soon as she arrived yet found nothing unusual with her.
Story[]
On Sunday, April 22 Kondou Seiichirou sits typing on a computer, having worked all day because they do not have enough staff. After work Seiichirou considers his stamina and cooking for himself then hears a scream. Intervening, he comes across a woman being pulled into a shining spell circle. At taking her hand, they are both transported within a building and find themselves surrounded by people. The woman is greeted as a saint whereas Seiichirou is taken to another room. People who introduced themselves as Royal Palace Mages and Ministers explain this was another world, Seiichirou was currently in the Royal Palace of the "Romane Kingdom." This was home to the "Forest of Magic," one covered in miasma where once a century the miasma would spread out into the world beyond and create plagues. An "other-worldly summoning" was used to bring the woman here who was identified as a saint who had a special power to purify the miasma. Her location was revealed by the gods in a divine revelation. It is explained that they could not change the fact that an unrelated person was summoned as well.
With preparations made for Seiichirou to stay, he requests a job, one accounting related. Helmuth Sommelier reveals he is the head of accounting and shows Seiichirou to his quarters. Norbert Baranek arrives with books and clothes, and as with Sommelier and the residence attendant before him he takes note of Kondou's name. The next morning Seiichirou has learned a day was divided into six parts, fire, water, wind, earth, wood, and light. This world also has clocks where the seconds seem to match up to Seiichirou's concept of seconds. One hour was 120 minutes, or two full turns of a clock. Numbers, the books, and the watch Norbert brought along had writing in Arabic numerals yet Seiichirou finds he can understand it. Arriving thirty minutes early for work Seiichirou is approached by Indrak Aresh.[1]
Remembering Indrak from yesterday Seiichirou is questioned on why he is here. Norbert is surprised to come across Indrak, who then leaves. Explaining that the Third Knight Order Indrak is a part of are elites that can use both swords and magic, Norbert continues that the first order knights guard the royal palace and the town. The second knight order protects the royal family and important people, the third knight order hunts down demonic beasts. Sir Aresh is described as particularly extraordinary. After Norbert details Indrak's background, Sommelier arrives and Seiichirou heads to the accounting section. With tomorrow being a bank holiday Norbert suggests he and Seiichirou go into town together. There, as Seiichirou contemplates an abacus Norbert finds him and says it has only been two days since he arrived and it would be dangerous by himself, before they enjoy their time together.
Having arrived early to clean, Seiichirou is questioned by Norbert about his sleep. A colorless liquid, a supplement is provided to help with sleeping. Seiichirou is informed the saint is calling for him. Learning that the woman's name is Shiraishi Yua, she is with the first prince of the kingdom, Julius, along with Indrak. After Shiraishi shares that she intends to be the saint to help the people of this kingdom, Julius is informed that the king is calling for him. Departing, he leaves Seiichirou with Indrak and Shiraishi.[2]
Speaking to Shiraishi and stating she has been essentially kidnapped to work for this kingdom results in her becoming upset, then leaving retaining the resolve to help the people. At his apartment Seiichirou is exhausted and drinks from the bottle that Norbert provided. It helps him sleep as stated and, in the morning, Seiichirou hears that it was made by a pharmacist who works for the Knight Order. After work, Seiichirou and Norbert head into town for the former to buy ten more of the supplements. Thanked by the shopkeeper for serving the royal knights at the Royal Palace since that is his view, Seiichirou thinks they are not serving them though. Captain Indrak and vice-captain Rowder arrive where the latter describes the accounting department as the laundering (money laundering) department. Indrak speaks to Seiichirou how the Prime Minister has his eye on him, which he feels is because of what was said to Shiraishi.
Reviewing paperwork Seiichirou raises how his job is to check the budget applications where Sommelier's job is to stamp them with a seal of approval. Seiichirou has spotted that a large number of applications have come from the Third Knight Order to cover "training costs". Three of the requests have differing amounts, more-over all of them exceed 10,000R. While he acts to address the requests, Seiichirou is shocked to see the department essentially works as a conveyer belt to transfer funds to the Third Knight Order.[3] Feeling this props up a class system where nobles cannot be opposed, Seiichirou thinks further on possible ramifications on people should there be events such as natural disasters. Electing to classify requests as good or bad, Seiichirou announces from now on they will make it clear that applications that are wasteful will not be accepted.
Rowder speaks to Indrak how he has been having trouble getting his budget applications through lately. Indrak checks a form that labels the "training" purpose as too vague. Shiraishi happens upon them before the three find the Prime Minister join them as well. A view of him is that even with a pleasant smile on his face, the cruelty of his blunt speech could tear right through someone. Due to the wisdom, he had accumulated over time, he can see through everything and manipulate the outcome as he sees fit. He was not someone to make an enemy of rashly. If you incurred his displeasure, no matter how high-ranked one was, the chances are they would be kicked down from their position. These were the horror stories whispered within the Romane Royal Palace as if they were fact. As wise as he was, the Prime Minister Calvader did not like conforming to tradition and thus disapproved of the Saint Summoning custom. However, seeing how he was looking after the Saint's matters perhaps he had accepted the kingdom's policy to believe in the saint once she had arrived. Both Indrak and Rowder are surprised to hear Shiraishi describe Calvader as kind. Asking about Seiichirou since he is from her world, Shiraishi describes him as a corporate slave, a term used to make fun of people that slave away in an office and are willing to work from sunrise to sunset, even on their days off, and do not complain despite all that. Calvader find this very interesting.
Concerning the "Countermeasures for the Forest of Magic" section of the "National Defence" Seiichirou has found this to be the biggest drain on the budget. Miasma resurfaces in the Forest of Magic every hundred years, and yet it has already been a hundred and twenty years since the last time. Comparatively there are more funds during this outbreak. What is more, the last few outbreaks the saint has also been appearing in neighboring allied nations, easing the strain, so because there was a surplus the kingdom spent money without a care. Feeling now the situation is different, Seiichirou notes at the first sign of a miasma outbreak the kingdom used a huge amount of the budget to use a secret custom. He and Shiraishi were kidnapped and brought to this world. With the two of them the kingdom had to account for another person's share with his living expenses. As he contemplates expenses and what could happen if there were a miasma outbreak Seiichirou is alerted that an official outbreak of miasma has been confirmed.[4]
A report of crop damage from a village near the Forest of Magic is discussed. A purification is called for as soon as possible before it gets any worse, but the tax revenue is declining, and the emergency budget is limited as well. When Sommelier returns to the office, he is impressed with Seiichirou's work ethic before being tasked to look over the documents detailing the government's expenditures for the past twenty years, as well as the budget applications received throughout the previous year, and the budget plan for the future. A summary of the income and expenditure report for the past twenty years, where the amount of money that each department applied for, a review on the current budget breakdown and a chart showing the calculation of possible damages caused by the miasma in the future are presented by Sommelier to Calvader. Wanting Sommelier to lead him to who made the document, Calvader finds and grants Seiichirou a position. Calvader considers how Seiichirou organized large amounts of information which should not be possible to be done at once, usually it takes weeks. With Seiichirou willing to work for hours without asking for anything in return, Calvader contemplates further that he is a magnificent pawn. Those around are startled to see that Calvader is humming, Indrak included.
Taking up his new role as Assistant Director of the Accounting Department Seiichirou turns to the miasma issue. With his workload he acquires more bottles of the supplement. Indrak enters the store and hears from the store keeper how Seiichirou just brought some. By himself Seiichirou experiences dizziness before being found by Indrak.[5] Supplement and restorative medicines can activate the body's cellular functions where overdosing can jeopardize the body. After Indrak uses magic to help Seiichirou he is concerned at his face being too red and wonders what is the matter. Seiichirou presses his face into Indrak and grips him tightly before being taken back to his residence.
By morning Indrak informs Seiichirou that he overdosed on the supplements from the pharmacy. In order to proceed with further treatment for magic intoxication Indrak asks for his consent since he will have to acclimatize Seiichirou's body with magic. Seiichirou accepts the treatment and Indrak undresses before embracing him. Later, Indrak considers Seiichirou's situation of not needing to work but wanting to anyway. While Indrak checks Seiichirou who can answer questions now, it is around 9.50 on a clock. Seiichirou is alarmed that it is almost the hour of light which means the office hours will soon be starting. Hurrying to leave for work Seiichirou tells Indrak he will pay him back for saving his life later.[6]
